PictureFX CineStill 800T v2.0
A downloadable tool
I’ve been holding off on releasing this for quite some time. What started as a simple experiment with PictureFX CineStill 800T v1.0 back then in 2021, turned into an unexpected success. With over 42,000 downloads and countless likes, it became by far my most downloaded LUT. Not only that, but it also became one of the most popular LUTs on FreshLuts, ranking among the top 15 most downloaded on the site.
Let’s rewind to October 2021. Back then, I had stocked up on a variety of 35mm film rolls to shoot with my Olympus OM-2000 SLR. My plan was to scan the developed photos, study them closely, and tweak their digital counterparts—shot simultaneously in RAW format—using RawTherapee. Through adjustments to white balance, color toning, and more, I aimed to match the scanned film prints as closely as possible. The PictureFX CineStill 800T v1.0 LUT was born out of this process and specifically recreated the look of CineStill 800T film shot in daylight with an 85B color correction filter.

However, while creating that LUT, I also experimented with a version without the 85B filter. These had a completely different tonal quality, which I eventually developed into what I called PictureFX CineStill 800T v2.0. You could say this is the “true” version—the way the film would look in your camera without a compensation filter. It has an even stronger greenish tint than version 1, a look many photographers and videographers love. However, unlike version 1.0, I never made this one available for download.
It’s still winter on this side of the globe, and with the world’s darker days—both literally and figuratively—along with the rising trend of moody, atmospheric photography, I feel it’s the perfect time to finally release version 2 of my CineStill 800T LUT.
