PictureFX Cinestill 800T v1.0
It’s been a few years since I created this LUT—PictureFX Cinestill 800T v1.0—based on the very idea that sparked PictureFX in the first place: offering unique LUTs you won’t easily find elsewhere. Not just another film look, but something carefully crafted and different.
Back in 2021, I was deep into using Fujifilm cameras. Film simulation fever was everywhere—Provia, Velvia, Classic Chrome, Astia—Fujifilm’s in-camera color magic was all the rage, and creating custom presets became a trend of its own. I played along for a while but quickly grew tired of the flood of lookalike “recipes,” often just minor tweaks of existing ones, rebranded and repackaged.
So, I looked for something more original—something nobody else was doing, and something usable on any camera. That’s when Cinestill 800T was born.
One visitor commented, “I love this one! Has some real classic chrome vibes going for it. Almost makes me want to get a film camera and some of this film.” At first, it was only available via my private Drive. Then it landed on freshluts.com, and the rest is history. With around 50,000 downloads, PictureFX Cinestill 800T v1.0 is now among the most downloaded film simulation LUTs out there.
This LUT was built with care, using real 35mm film shots taken on an Olympus 2000 SLR, scanned negatives, color mapping from film charts, and fine-tuned across various RAW images. Multiple cameras were used for this calibration process, including the Olympus E-M1 Mark II and the legendary Fujifilm X-H1. I tested it in various editing environments to ensure maximum compatibility and consistency.
Later, I created version 2.0—also available here—a “true” version of Cinestill 800T without the 85B correction filter. It has an even stronger greenish tint that many photographers and videographers love. However, unlike version 1.0, it was never published—until now, on picturefx.itch.io.
Still, no film simulation I’ve made has reached the popularity of v1.0—my most downloaded, and most iconic LUT to date.

Installation & Usage
The download includes:
-
PictureFX_Cinestill800T_v1_25x.cube
— standard LUT version (25-point grid) -
PictureFX_Cinestill800T_v1_64x.cube
— high-resolution version (64-point grid) -
PictureFX_Cinestill800T_v1_125x.png
— PNG version for apps like RawTherapee or darktable -
PictureFX_Cinestill800T_v1_512x.png
— high-res PNG for advanced use or video workflows
How to use:
In most video/photo editors (DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, Final Cut, etc.):
-
Import the
.cube
LUT (25x for faster previews, 64x for final grading). -
Apply it via the LUT/Color Grading section of your editing software.
-
Adjust intensity or combine with other tools as needed.
In RawTherapee:
-
Place the
.png
file (125x or 512x) in your preferred LUT directory. -
Go to the Color tab → Color Management section.
-
Enable LUT and select the PNG from the dropdown menu.
-
Fine-tune strength with the LUT Strength slider.
In darktable:
-
Use the 125x or 512x
.png
version with the 3D LUT module. -
Load the LUT from your custom LUT directory.
-
Combine it with your filmic or base curve workflow.
Tips:
-
The 64x
.cube
gives the most accurate look but may be heavier on performance. -
The PNG versions are best suited for RAW workflows and non-cube compatible apps.
-
For a more "raw" Cinestill experience, try version 2.0 without the 85B filter.
